Redesigning and updating the face of an entire preexisting and longstanding public service organization was a  hugely exciting and challenging task. As my first large project to head, there were certainly a lot of firsts but luckily I was able to work with an incredibly dedicated and helpful team. Here's our redesign of the Elkhart Public Library logo.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Campaign Redesign

____

This campaign redesign was such an energetic and fun project that young readers and their families in our community loved being a part of and seeing come to fruition. 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a program designed to help EPL reach our goal of ensuring every child is ready to read by 3rd grade.

To the right is Izzy. Izzy was the first child to complete the challenge since the redesign. Seeing her smile as she earned her coveted award and super-sticker-silly growth chart is the whole reason why I love what I do every day.

On top of our typical services and availability for patrons to sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, we also gift every newborn baby at Elkhart Memorial Hospital with their very own celebratory starter kit, courtesy of our Marketing department. Check the link below to see what we include.

Watching your ideas come to life on the walls of our city's downtown is pretty amazing and I'm grateful I had this opportunity to design for larger landscapes. As seen, this showcases my ability to design for expansive formats, use color and space complimentarily, typography uniquely, and hand letter while maintaining our brand's general image and branding.

Annual Report

Abobe InDesign & Adobe Illustrator

I'm sure we can all agree that 2020 was truly one for the books! Print design is a confident medium for me, but developing an annual report when the pandemic numbers aren't improving and the information you have doesn't look majorly impressive required innovation. Being in a pandemic is a first for me, but it certainly sparked my adaptability and helped me learn in ways I probably wouldn't have. It's obvious that this pandemic has taken a toll on many, most crucially families, students, and many communities' libraries. This visual, captivating infographic document displays my ability to curate information creatively and in a visually pleasing way.

Roots & Wings Branding Design

Adobe Illustrator & Adobe Photoshop

____

Roots & Wings Therapies is a start-up mental health facility designed to connect children with someone who can really help. This was a freelance project I took on for a continuing client and longtime friend of mine. I aimed to keep the most important goal . I took the symbolism behind what a butterfly encompasses and incorporated an almost brain-like root pattern to showcase their motto; where strong roots grow into strong wings. My hope is that with every child who sees this, notices the vibrancy and life that lives within this design and knows that they are in a safe place to grow.

From the moods boards, to revising design files to the moment patrons open the mailer, this campaign was completed in a record time of just short of a week.

It's not every day that I have the opportunity to design such a large scale campaign. And to go from the planning stage to prepress in just a couple days goes to show how I can turn anything I put my mind to into a passion project. Normally my designs don't go through too much revision but we wanted to make sure this campaign was absolutely perfect so on the third try, I finally got it right.

My favorite part about the finished look is that it truly showcases my style and where I see myself heading in the future. Even though I was limited on time, I made sure to challenge myself and use photoshop to add character to my designs. Experimenting with different design styles, texture packs and overlay options - I found a secret love for making things look less 2D and more 3D. Makes me excited to continue to challenge myself, try new things and see where I can take my creativity to the next level.

Explore Magazine

Customized to Your Liking

I knew my high school journalism days came in handy for something. The whole reason I got into graphic design and changed my major was because of my love for layout and design. The Explore magazine is a staple at our library. Ranging from 18 - 32 pages, this beast is designed entirely by myself in the span of 2 - 3 weeks. I find that I work well under pressure and this seasonal

Motion graphics is a somewhat newer skill I started dabbling with in beginning of 2020. The most challenging thing I found is that learning a new adobe program can be difficult to do on your own but I managed to find a ton of free and paid online resources that have helped me grow my skills.

One of my favorite parts of this project was being able to encourporate one of my favorite programs, Procreate, to hand draw and animate the logo intro slide. The project has also shown me how much more growth there is left for me. Makes me excited to continue trying new things to see what creative product I can come up with.

Spanish Paradise Billboard

This particular billboard design was hands down my favorite to design. I had so much fun playing with this concept, the color palette, fonts and space. When asked to create something enticing to help draw our Spanish speaking patrons in, I was a little nervous, but after doing some research and partnering with a fellow Spanish speaking employee, this is what we came up with.

"Siempre imaginé que el paraíso sería algún tipo de biblioteca" translates to "I always imagined paradise to be a kind of library"
